A tape recorder

With real reels. Amazing what it can do to sound. And there seems still no way to really mimic it with digital tools. I have experienced it today, when finalizing my music for the Zeelandia Theatre Production House. Micha de Kanter uses such an old device. We did a guitar tromone jazz duet with it and a screaming blues solo on the guitar. Very nice how stuff gets softer AND punchy AND deep!
